On the bench

Most engine models are a shape with a logo on it. This one is built to show the inside: compressor and turbine stages, the lift fan arrangement that gives the aircraft its vertical capability, and the structural relationships between them. For anyone trying to understand how a vectoring jet engine actually works, a model you can walk around beats a diagram.

How it behaves in a build

At forty-three by twenty-eight by ten centimetres and a little over four and a half pounds it sits comfortably on a desk or a shelf, and the structure stays rigid after assembly rather than sagging under its own weight the way large open builds sometimes do. Eighteen hundred pieces is an approachable project — a long weekend rather than a month — and the educational angle makes it an easy gift for someone who likes to know how things work.

Fit and compatibility

Standard small brick specification throughout, so an existing collection can supply a replacement if a piece is lost.

More ASTEM technic parts: gears, axles and compatible building block sets

Builders rarely stop at one drawer, and the ASTEM collection is laid out with that in mind. Every technic building set we pack is LEGO® compatible in the plain sense — the technic gear module, the cross axle section and the pin diameter all match what is already in your bin. Most of what we fix comes from builders writing in; a customer note about the experience of opening a bag beats any lab test.
