On the bench

The FP7 is the locomotive most people picture when they picture a streamlined American passenger train, and the Warbonnet scheme is the reason. Getting that paint right at one to eighty-seven is the whole test of a model, and the lettering here is applied rather than moulded, so the lines stay crisp where the nose curves. It is the flagship of our locomotive shelf and the one we would put at the head of a passenger consist.

How it behaves in a build

Underneath the paint it is built the way a model should be: metal components give it the weight to hold the rail through a curve instead of skating, and the drive runs on standard fourteen volt DC so it works with any conventional controller. Couplers are included for adding cars. On a layout with generous radii this one looks right at speed, which is where a passenger diesel earns its keep.

Fit and compatibility

HO scale 1:87 on standard gauge track, with couplers for linking to other cars in this range.

More ASTEM technic parts: gears, axles and compatible building block sets

If this is part of a bigger build, the collection has the pieces around it. Every technic building set we pack is LEGO® compatible in the plain sense — the technic gear module, the cross axle section and the pin diameter all match what is already in your bin. Builders are blunt about what binds and what slips, and that customer experience is the only review that moves a production run.
