On the bench

Two is the count for one job. A single tie rod, one suspension arm, the pivot on a crane boom — all of those need a pair rather than a set of four, and buying two keeps the bench tidy. The specification is the same as the larger pack: an eighteen millimetre steel ball in a large receptacle, twenty-seven grams apiece, with the grip that keeps a steering link free of play.

How it behaves in a build

We also keep a pair on hand as replacements. Ball joints are a wear item in any model that actually gets driven, and swapping a worn plastic joint for a steel one is the cheapest way to make an old chassis feel new again. The fit is firm from the start and stays that way, which is the entire reason to move from plastic in the first place. Colour varies with the run.

Fit and compatibility

Compatible with the 99948 and 92911 technic part geometry used in standard steering and suspension linkages.

Everything else in the collection is in the same ten drawers, a click from here. Across the technic shelves the geometry is constant — one technic gear module, one axle cross, one pin diameter — which is what makes a mixed building set LEGO® compatible in practice. Builders are blunt about what binds and what slips, and that customer experience is the only review that moves a production run.
