On the bench

Plastic ball joints wear. A steering linkage that was crisp when built develops play after a few hundred cycles, and the model starts wandering. Steel balls in a large receptacle are the answer to that, and the eighteen millimetre size is the one used where the load is real — front steering, suspension arms, boom linkages on a crane.

How it behaves in a build

At twenty-seven grams per piece these are noticeably heavy in the hand, which is a decent proxy for how much abuse they will take. Four is the right count for one complete steering axle with both tie rods, or for a pair of suspension arms. The receptacle grips firmly from new and does not need bedding in, so a linkage built with these feels tight from the first test run. Colours arrive at random.

Fit and compatibility

Equivalent to the 99948 and 92911 technic parts, so they drop into linkages designed around those references.

More ASTEM technic parts: gears, axles and compatible building block sets

Our collection is sorted so the next thing you need is one drawer over. The technic gear train, the axles that carry it and the beams around it come out of one compatible building set standard, the same one LEGO® technic has always used. Builders tell us what the experience of the first build was like, and that customer feedback decides what changes in the next run.
