On the bench

The removable part is the point. Leave the tanks in place and it is a tank transport car, a common sight serving chemical plants and depots. Lift them off and it is a plain flatcar ready for pipe, machinery, timber or a scratch built load of your own. That flexibility is rare on a ready to run wagon and makes this one of the more interesting cars on the shelf.

How it behaves in a build

At forty feet it is the standard mid century flatcar length and handles normal curves without the overhang that long modern flats suffer. Metal construction gives it weight, which a flatcar needs badly since there is little body to provide it. Painted lettering and exterior detail follow the range standard and couplers are fitted. Buy this one if you like changing what your trains are carrying.
