A DDT Plymouth diesel switcher on twelve volts — the small industrial locomotive that shunts where nothing else fits.

On the bench

Plymouth built the locomotives that worked inside factories, quarries and mills: tiny, centre cab, built for pushing a handful of wagons a short distance. Modelled at one to eighty-seven the result is almost comically small next to a road diesel, and that contrast is precisely why people want one. An industrial siding with a Plymouth on it reads instantly as a working place rather than a display track.

How it behaves in a build

Small locomotives have a reputation for poor running, which metal construction here helps with by putting weight over the wheels. Twelve volt operation keeps the top speed sensible — an industrial shunter that does scale ninety miles an hour looks ridiculous. Couplers are fitted and the painted lettering holds up to the close inspection a small model invites.

Fit and compatibility

HO 1:87 scale with standard couplers, happy on tight radius industrial trackwork.

More ASTEM technic parts: gears, axles and compatible building block sets

Everything else in the collection is in the same ten drawers, a click from here. We measure before we pack: technic gear teeth, axle cross and pin fit, so the building set you open is compatible with the LEGO® parts on your table. Builders are blunt about what binds and what slips, and that customer experience is the only review that moves a production run.
