On the bench

Six hundred and ninety-nine pieces sounds like a number until you spread them on a bench and see what is actually there: forty tooth spur gears, curved and straight racks, twelve tooth bevels, double bevels in the usual twenty tooth size, and the worm screws that let a small motor hold a heavy arm in place without creeping. That spread is what makes the kit useful. Most gear packs give you a lot of one thing; this one gives you enough of each thing to lay out a complete reduction and still have spares when a tooth count turns out wrong.

How it behaves in a build

We keep this one near the front of the bench because it answers the question that stops most technic projects halfway. You have the beams, you have the idea, and you are missing the one gear that turns the idea into motion. The curved rack in particular is hard to source on its own and shows up here in quantity, which opens up steering racks and rotating turntables without a special order. Colours arrive mixed and no instruction sheet is included, which is the honest trade for the part count.

Fit and compatibility

Cut to standard technic tolerances, so the axle holes and clutch faces mate with parts from the major building systems rather than sitting loose.

More ASTEM technic parts: gears, axles and compatible building block sets

Everything else in the collection is in the same ten drawers, a click from here. A technic gear is only useful if it fits, so every axle, pin and building set here is held to the LEGO® compatible dimensions the system has used for decades. Builders tell us what the experience of the first build was like, and that customer feedback decides what changes in the next run.
