On the bench

Every layout needs something small that moves wagons about, and this is the entry to that role. An industrial switcher is short, slow and useful, which means it works on a tabletop layout where a road locomotive would overhang every curve. It also makes a sensible first purchase: if the hobby does not stick, you have risked little, and if it does, a switcher never becomes surplus.

How it behaves in a build

Build standard matches the rest of the range — metal components for weight and steady rolling, painted lettering and exterior detail, couplers fitted. Twelve volt operation pairs with any conventional controller. We would run this on an industrial spur with three or four freight cars, which is honestly the most entertaining kind of operating session a small layout can offer.
