On the bench

Every layout needs one feed section and most sets make you work out where it goes. This is a standard R3 curve with the power connection already integrated, so a controller attaches directly and the rest of the track takes its power through the rail joiners. Putting the feed on a curve rather than a straight is often convenient, since curves tend to sit at the accessible front of a layout.

How it behaves in a build

The rails are rust free for stable, consistent delivery of current, which is the whole purpose of a feed section — a poor connection here produces symptoms everywhere else on the layout and is miserable to diagnose. Sleeper detail matches the plain track so the feed section does not stand out visually. On anything larger than a small loop, add a second feed on the far side.
